Happy New Year!

Image
Wow! It's almost the end of the year already. So if you're not in a coma from all of the holiday sweets, then you're probably thinking about everything that has happened this past year. We're in the same mindset over here at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. A lot has happened in the city of Bowling Green this year; everyone hosted a lot of new events, we welcomed new businesses to the community and both the Black Swamp Arts Festival and the city of Bowling Green were given "Best of" awards by Ohio Magazine! We ended 2017 on a very high note and with Winterfest around the corner we look to keep the note very high and continue to show why BG was awarded Best Hometown. So from everyone here at the CVB, we hope you have a happy new year and we'll see you in 2018!

SamB's Restaurant

Image
Known for having the “best seafood” and being the “best place to be spoiled by your parents,” SamB’s is a restaurant you must experience. About a 15 minute walk from Bowling Green State University’s campus and five minute drive, it is the perfect place to gather with family and friends for a fantastic meal. SamB’s has been an establishment in the Bowling Green community since 1972, serving lunch, dinner and happy hour specials. When they first opened, SamB’s was just a small sub shop ran by three college students, and today the restaurant is one of the best places to go in Northwest Ohio. The establishment has held close ties with BGSU, being a proud partner of BGSU Athletics. In 2016, the establishment was given the “Award of Excellence” by TripAdvisor. SamB’s is the place to feed your hunger. While having a large variety on their menu for lunch, dinner and happy hour, SamB’s also has weeknight specials and weekend features as well. Some of these dishes are not served daily, so...

The Sundae Station

Image
The Sundae Station Take time off from your busy day, to take the family out for a treat and enjoy one of Bowling Green’s local ice cream shops. Voted the #1 ice cream shop in Wood County, the Sundae Station is a locally owned, a town loved attraction, and a great location for a delicious treat! The Sundae Station is open seasonally from late February to mid October, and serves many delicious creations.  The Sundae Station’s main attraction is their soft serve ice cream, that include specialty Sundaes and Avalanches. They also serve Toft’s Hand Dipped Ice Cream and Only 8 Frozen Yogurt. Also available is made-to-order selections such as sandwiches, sides and snacks. Some of the customer favorites include home made Shredded Chicken Sandwich and BBQ Pulled Pork. The Sundae Station has many seasonal ice cream flavors, my favorite being pumpkin that is served in the fall. The Sundae Station serves ice cream in cones, sundaes and sandwiches!  They also have soft serve and fr...

“For Falcons, By Falcons” is the motto at Ziggy’s Bar here in Bowling Green. This isn’t just any bar. This one is special because three best friends, and BGSU alumni, bought this bar to create a great hang out for BG students to gather with friends, hence the motto “For Falcons, By Falcons.” Ziggy’s is open from 4:00 PM – 2:30 AM, Monday-Saturday. That means you can come out on almost any night to enjoy some drinks and good music with your friends. They have something going on every night they are open that is bound to excite you. These include drink specials, such as $1 drink night on Thursdays, $2 domestic bottle and draft beer and Pride Night on Monday nights, $6 Bud Light pitchers and $3 Dr. Peppermint shots on Wednesday, and many many more. Ziggy’s offers a variety of beers and liquor, great for shots and mixed drinks. It may be a bar, but alcohol isn’t the only thing on the menu! Doc's Big City Saloon

Image
Doc’s Big City Saloon is a laid back country style bar and grill located in the heart of Bowling green at 145 N Main Street.  Live music and pool tables will keep you entertained while enjoying your food and drinks.  I have been to this bar multiple times and have enjoyed personalizing my own sandwich, trying their signature mason jar cocktails, and playing pool. The best experience that I have had at Doc’s was on Halloween because it was crowded but I still received quality service while a lot of the other bars were so crowded it was hard to move or get attention from the  servers or bartenders. There are many great everyday drink specials including 30 different choices of $3 domestic cans and bottles, $4 for any draft beer, and an assortment of $5 mason jar cocktails.  On Tallboy Thursday's all 16 oz cans are only $2 and in addition the mason jar cocktails are reduced down to $4.  Doc ’s has home-style menu starting with appetizers including battered gree...
