Have You Heard of 'Geocaching?'  If not, you're missing out on one of Bowling Green's favorite outdoor activities! Pronounced 'geo-cashing,' it's a chance to go on a real life treasure hunt, while taking in the unique sights and scenery of our beautiful community. Participants navigate using a specific set of coordinates in order to locate the cache (or treasure!), usually a container with a log book with signatures of others who have found the cache and possibly some various trinkets. You can claim a trinket as your reward, however, it is expected you replace it with another object for the next person to find their cache. Some caches involve multiple steps, clues, and puzzles, anything that will help add to the challenge. (Simpson Garden Park pictured) Bowling Green Parks and Recreation department provides a range of  recreational settings for everyone. There are countless programs and activities to get outside and get active with youth and adult sports, golfing, an award-winning Water Park, Community Center, parks and nature preserves, and much more! Throughout the year, the department organizes many programs, like nature hikes, brown bag music series, picnics in the park, volunteer programs, gardening activities, and fitness classes to name a few. They also host annual events for families and adults, including the Egg Scramble (an egg hunt held at night for adults), Health & Fitness Day, Couch Potato 5K, Father Daughter Dance and Pint-Sized Prom, and Monarchs are Marvelous. City Park   is a great place to take the family for a day of fun in the community. The park has a water-park with a slide, lazy river, splash pad and more. Additional park fun includes the excellent playgrounds, there is  one for children four years and under and another for children who are age’s five to twelve.  Rental facilities located in the park include five community shelters with electricity and the Needle Hall building with an event rom and stage. Also in the park, is a roller hockey rink, a dynamic skate park, basketball courts, and a baseball field. Located next to the park is  the Bowling Green Country Club,  a beautiful nine-hole golf course.       A wonderful place to visit this summer is Schooner Farms located right outside of BG, Ohio. Schooner Farms is a 20 acre all organic farm providing gardens for CSA members to use and also allows berry-picking for the public. The Bowling Green CVB took a visit out there this week, look at all the amazing things we saw!  A bee sips sweet nectar out of a sunflower in their sunflower patch!  Schooner Farms Lavender Labyrinth. The lavender is still growing and we're so excited for when it blooms! A scarecrow is fishing at one of their ponds! (: Schooner Farms strawberry patch! They were delicious!     The Farmers Market in downtown Bowling Green is a great place to find fresh food, flowers, and crafts! There is a Veggie Valet so you can shop, park your veggies and patronize the local shops and restaurants in historic downtown BG. The market is every Wednesday night starting at 4pm from May 21 to October 15, 2014. May is a great month to get outside and get some annual gardening done. Bowling Green, Ohio has several stores to meet your gardening needs, but today we are highlighting Klotz Floral Design & Garden. Klotz is and has been locally owned and operated since 1918! The plants are almost entirely locally-grown and the staff know the local soil and climate conditions as well as native plants and can answer gardening questions big and small. When spending money on plants it is nice to know that the plants are cultivated here and ready for our area weather and soil.
