Out With The Old, In With The New: Sugar Ridge Brewery “Not For The Weak!”

Downtown Bowling Green is known for it’s timeless locations and rich history. Come November, there will be new addition to the bar scene downtown at 109 South Main Street. This new addition will be the Sugar Ridge Brewery, a microbrewery founded right here in Bowling Green, Ohio. Since it began. Sugar Ridge Brewery was located just outside of downtown at 17745 N. Dixie Highway, making it one of Bowling Green’s best kept secrets. However, this new location will evolve Sugar Ridge Brewery from a best kept secret into a new Bowling Green tradition.

Sugar Ridge Brewery was founded by Mike Mullins. It became fully functional in October of 2010 and serves the greater Toledo area.  Mike's background is in the restaurant business in which he spent many years working and studying.  He holds a Restaurant Management degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and a Culinary Arts degree from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY.  His brewing experience began in 1992 and he holds an Associates degree from the American Brewers Guild.

The old location also had the Black & Tan Taproom. Anyone who was familiar with the Taproom could tell you that the atmosphere was unique and unlike anything else around Bowling Green. It was a place where friends and beer lovers could come and hear some live music, bring your favorite food, and of course enjoy some of the best crafted beer in town.  There were dartboards, with room to dance, drink, and have fun. There were constant events from the live music, to the occasional pig roasts.  Patrons of the Taproom were sad to see it go but as of recently, you are now able to take a little bit of Sugar Ridge Brewery home with you by purchasing exclusive merchandise that all carry the proud Sugar Ridge logo.  (See Photos Below)

The new location downtown is a new chapter in the brewery’s life. The location, craft beer, and new food menu will draw in a younger crowd while keeping the patrons and the same mission as before, to provide quality hand crafted brews that are “Not For The Weak!” There is a beer for everyone at the Sugar Ridge Brewery, including the Joe Beer, Sylvania Stout (a personal favorite), Blarney Blueberry Ale and more. The location may be changing but the cold handcrafted beers all stay the same.
