Meet our Spring 2018 intern, Catie!
Hello! My name is Catie Field and I am senior at Bowling Green State University studying Tourism, Leisure and Event Planning (TLEP). I am the middle of three children – I have an older brother and a younger sister – and I grew up in Toledo, Ohio. I am a member of a service sorority on campus, Omega Phi Alpha and currently I am the president of that organization. Omega Phi Alpha is a service sorority that was founded right here on BGSU’s campus. As an organization we spend complete roughly 1000 hours of service to Bowling Green and the surrounding areas. Through that group I have made lifelong friendships and had the opportunity to give back to the community and people around me which is something that I really enjoy.
I am new to the TLEP program, this is only my second semester with this as my official major. I was formerly studying education and was working towards becoming a high school social studies teacher. Two years ago, I participated in the Disney College Program which gave me the amazing opportunity to go and work for Walt Disney World for a semester. When I got back, I started to think about my life and future career, so I switched my major and I’m so glad I did! I came to BGSU for their renowned programs in the field of Education, and since it was all I had ever wanted to do I never really considered the other majors they have to offer. When I found TLEP I was nervous at first but now I have to wonder why I haven’t been here all along. I have always had a desire to travel and I would love to be able to make that dream a reality. I’m on track to graduate this August and I hope to be working possibly as an event coordinator for a company or possibly a resort, but I would also be open to jobs within the tourism field. Originally, I thought my heart was set on event planning, however now I find it difficult to decide between the two. I am really looking forward to working with the CVB this semester since I will be able to get some experience in the tourism field as well some event planning experience. I’m excited to see how it all works, as well as make some new connections within the Bowling Green community!
